Cool! Check out the official site of Hannibal. I know where I'm going Friday.
And speaking of nicely designed flash sites - Check out the new Enya site too.

Ooooh. Ahhhhhhhhh.......

The onset of another icy cold spell yesterday was reason enough for me to fire up my recently purchased crockpot and make about 6 quarts of multi-bean soup (enough to feed a small country you would think). After giving some of the soup away, I invited a few friends over for dinner and we managed to polish the rest off accompanied by a huge honkin' 2-liter of Cherokee Red soda.

And although it is mainly by my own choice, my friends (just like the soup) are now gone, and I'm sitting here listening to the dull rhythmic tumbling of the clothesdryer outside my apartment hallway and feeling completely and utterly alone.

Oh.

Despite the fact that hiccups can be quite an amusing companion, they are the only thing that I wish would really go away right now. They just don't have the same effect when you are by yourself.

Okay. So the "Super" Bowl is starting in a few hours. Big whoopee. I'm not really a big fan of professional organized sports anyway (unless we're talking about soccer). I'm just curious what the ratio of "people who watch the game for the sake of the game" to "people who watch the game just for the commercials" is.

Bahh. I think I'm going to watch a movie instead.

Why is it that when I feel I have so many things to say that I end up sitting here with my fingers frozen on the keys...like I'm just waiting for them to start magically typing on their own?

No use trying to force anything out tonight. Damnit.

It's almost February for chrissakes and I just gathered up enough motivation to take down my Christmas tree. I was debating on leaving it up all year - sans ornaments of course. Too late for that now...it's finally tucked neatly away in my closet (which incidentally is big enough to fit a family of five).

I'm tired. I didn't get in last night until about 4:30 in the morning and didn't wake up until about 12:30 this afternoon. It's been a realllly long time since I've been out that late. After we left the bar Matt, Amy and I decided to go to one of those all night eating establishments that we so affectionately refer to as the "Bitchin' Kitchen". Somewhere in the middle of our conversation over undercooked hashbrowns and dishwater coffee, Amy nonchalantly brought up the fact that her mom refers to a dust pan as a "semi-gluppa-gluppa" and that when something is dirty it is "bucka-bucka, echh echh" (the latter part of this phrase being more of a gutteral utterance that originates from the back of the throat). She asked if we had ever heard of anything like that before. Of course we all said no. Of course now Amy wishes she had never told us that.

Oh. Another thing that was odd about last night was the fact that while we were waiting in line to be seated, the hostess greeted the party of two in front of us by saying, "Hi, four?", which didn't actually strike me as odd until she came up to us:

"Hi, four?"
  "Ummm...no. Three."
"Okay. Right this way."
  "Right. Thanks."

Okay. So I am now sporting a new hairdo. It's not quite as bad as I thought it would be in that modern day Bride of Frankenstein sort of way. I kinda like it.

Highway to Heaven

Highway to Heaven - sideroad to Hell
As J and I were making our way to our Cleveland office on Tuesday, I spotted a couple of semis traveling the highway that had GOD spelled out in huge 10 foot letters on the side. The thought of hauling God (who must be so big that he can only fit into a Mack truck) across endless stretches of interstate was quite amusing. I wore the batteries out in J's camera just as I was able to snap a picture of one of these elusive "transports". Imagine me in the passenger seat for an hour, poised and ready...just waiting to catch another glimpse of God. It wasn't as easy as you might think.

sidenote: Recently updated visualogue from our trip. The picture is of a sticker that was on one of the toll booths.

Things I learned today while making the hour long drive between offices:

  • Almost every song on the radio sounds better if you sing along with it Bob Dylan style.

  • If you tune in to your local classical music station while driving, you can pretend that you have your very own personal theme music that follows you wherever you go.

  • Axel F sounds even better then when I heard it for the first time about umpteen years ago.

So. It's around 10:30 p.m. and I finally just got home. I'm beat. After working till about 7:45 this evening I headed directly over to my mother's to help her clean the house because she's hosting card club tomorrow for her friends. While I was in the middle of scrubbing down the kitchen cupboards my mother asked me a rather peculiar question.

"So what are your fondest childhood memories?"
"I don't know mom - scrubbing the kitchen cupboards and sweeping down the steps maybe?"
"Come on now Michael. Be serious."
      "I am being serious mom."

Sometimes I can be such a smartass.

Hey...don't laugh at me, okay? I'm currently listening to Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell II. I stole it off of my mom. I also have one of her Roy Orbison cd's and her Neil Diamond box set.

Oh, and my nifty new lava lamp that I got from J is quite mesmerizing.

Hey...this is pretty neat. It seems like everyone is putting little pixelized versions of themselves on their sites now. There is one here and here and here.

So now I am jumping on the bandwagon. This is me. Only I really don't wear turtle necks:

I got over Matt's house after work with just enough time to load up on what was left of the cold ravioli and yummy-cheesy-garlicy-bread stuff that he made us for dinner at his new house. I had every intention of getting there a lot earlier than 7:45 but of course this week at work has been a constant barrage of ridiculous deadlines and "hey, i need this done yesterday" requests...so needless to say I ended up staying late. When I finally got there everyone was finished eating and the kitchen (which I had every intention of making a mess of) was already beyond recognition. Oh well...dinner was good though. My friends are the best!

Last night we were watching the history of the internet on the History Channel. It was pretty interesting. Did you know that when they came up with the idea of the "internet" and connecting remote computers that nobody wanted to build it because they thought it would never work? The funny part is that it was all of the major phone companies refused ARPA in the first place. Pretty ironic that they are the ones who ended up making a lot of money out of the whole deal. Oh yeah...and they didn't even mention Al Gore once.

*note to self: I still reaaaaallllly need to get cable. I want to watch the Discovery Channel, the History Channel and the Learning Channel for hours on end. I also want to be able to flip through 357 channels and still bitch about the fact that there still isn't anything on.

Hey. I'm setting an all time record here. I've been sporting a goatee for a little over two months now. Not that this trivial bit of information would be considered a long time by anyone else's standards - but for me it is. My tendency to grow facial hair usually only lasts for a couple of weeks until I suddenly grow tired of it and find myself in front of my bathroom mirror attacking it with a razor. Two whole months...wow. I've even been contemplating having my hair highlighted. I can only attribute this type of behavior to some sort of quarter-life crisis. Or maybe a subconcious act of trying to fit the stereo-typed role of a web designer. Either way, I hope that I can find something a bit more exciting to talk about soon. I find that writing about personal hygiene can be a bit disturbing.

    a little playing time

    cellar dweller
I've been spending most of my time lately in Matt's basement. We moved all of our equipment down there a couple of weeks ago and have been busy getting song lists together and practicing like mad. It feels good to be playing again...not to mention the fact that it's a great distraction from client deadlines and the usual mayhem that accompanies the other parts of my day.

    on another note:

"Should I bolt every time I get that feeling in my gut when I meet someone new? Well, I've been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and frankly speaking, I've come to the conclusion that my guts have shit for brains."

    But is it art?
What do you do when you go out for dinner and wait over an hour for a table and almost just as long to get your food? That's right...make amusing sculptures out of your bread and salad to pass the time. Quick thinking and a few creative minds on Saturday evening turned an otherwise horrible dining experience into a rather amusing art session. It's too bad I left my digital camera at home. It's a good thing Nick's girlfriend remembered the diposable camera that was in her car. I'll be sure to post photographs of our masterpiece once they get developed.

lesson learned: Sometimes playing with your food should be encouraged. My only regret is that I didn't get the mashed potatoes with my meal.

So. In regards to my deteriorating condition yesterday I decided to take the day off work. I hate taking time off especially when I have so much to do. Oh well...I'm not going to complain though. Besides the fact that I've felt like complete and utter crap all day it was nice to just relax. I think I moved from my couch twice...

I've been meaning to make a note of this for the past few days so it's probably old news by now: Looks like there's a few people doing some revamping. Oh yeah. There's some new stuff popping up too.

Nick, J and I just got back from lunch at one of those shady mexican type restaurants. I'm obviously in rare form today because in the span of a single hour I slipped and fell on the floor with about 30 people watching me, spilled my coke and then spontaneously uttered the phrase donde es mi gato? el gato es en mi boca. during our meal (at which point we all started laughing hysterically). I guess you had to be there. It's a good thing I took those 3 years of spanish in high school.

Other things that have made me laugh thus far today:

I am so not a back sleeper.
For as long as I can remember I have always slept on my stomach with my covers curled tight around me. Always in the same position and lying on the leftmost side of my bed. When I was little I also had the strange habit of bending my legs at the knee and sticking them straight up in the air at a 90 degree angle. My parents would always come into my room at night and try to push them back down when I was asleep, but for some reason my legs always insisted on setting themselves back into the same awkard position. Pretty weird huh? I'm not really sure how long this bizarre ritual went on or why for that matter. I don't even know what made me think of it...

...maybe it was the fact that I couldn't sleep last night and I kept turning and twisting myself into various positions every five minutes trying to get comfortable. It made me think of how I used to do that thing with my legs when I was a kid. Of course I tried it. Of course it didn't work. I think I slept for about two hours total. I'm also pretty sure that the four cups of coffee I had before I went to bed didn't help much.

Yep. So Happy New Year, eh? Spent the evening celebrating with a bunch of friends. Lots of hugs and kisses and drinks and stuff. I'd like to say that I'm completely hammered but I'm not. I'd also like to say that it's really late now but it's not. As a matter of fact it is just after 12:30am. I just got home. I'm tired. I'm going to bed. Apparently I'm not the partier that I once was.

So. I hope you all had a wonderful and safe evening with all of your loved ones. Kisses from me baby. Goodnight :)

    update:
Don't accuse me for never updating any other sections of my site. The pictures that I promised from the other day can be found on this page. Enjoy!
